OUR Green Community
Lake Milton is a beautiful
place to live and visit.  Its is
OUR GREEN COMMUNITY if
we all do our part.
Lake Milton:  "OUR" Green Community
Recycle & Reuse!
"Our" Green Community
We have a unique and wonderful asset in beautiful Lake Milton.  It's easy living green and everyone is
talking about it these days.  And we've never been trendy...but we want to take the next steps in
moving forward to conserve our limited natural resources.

What is Green Living?  Living a greener lifestyle means making simple changes to use less energy,
consume less stuff (putting less stuff in our landfills), and to keep Lake Milton more naturally healthy
and beautiful.  For instance, did you know that 50% of all paper and cardboard that is used in the
United States is recycled?  A first step here for you and your family is to gather up all the cardboard
you use and put it in the recycling bin instead of the trash can.  Think of it this way:  how big is your
"personal" space in the local landfill?  Can you shrink your personal footprint by putting items in the
recycling bin instead of the trash bin?  YES YOU CAN..and then you're on your way to making a
difference at Lake Milton.

What is a Carbon Footprint?  It's a measure of a person's or a family's impact on the environment.
This is in terms of emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) that's the biggest contributor to global
warming.  So, next step could be...ride your bike or walk instead of driving your car the next time you
need to run to the store at Lake Milton.  And be sure to use any one of these beautiful new walking
paths at our lake.

Some other ideas to lower your Carbon Footprint...
  • Unplug all charges (cell phone, iPod, etc) when their not charging a device.  You will reduce
your footprint by 100 pounds per year, per charger.
  • Spend 2 minutes less in the shower each day and save 400 lbs of CO2 from water heating
    and treating each year.
  • Get your morning cup of coffee in a reusable cup.  (Styrofoam is so bad for us and our earth.)
  • Wash your clothes in cold instead of hot water (use some of the new cold water detergents).
  • Go to greendimes.com and cut off junk mail to your home mailbox.

And to help you get started, here is some of the basic information about the
Recycling Centers at Lake Milton

Lake Milton has two (3) recycling centers that are open 24 hours:

  • One near the dam in Craig Beach
  • One behind the Milton Township Building
  • One on the South end of the lake at the boat launch

When dropping off your items:

  • Please pour the items out of the bag or box you brought them in.  Do not throw your trash bag
into the glass bin for instance.  A cardboard box works best because you can empty it and
then put it into the recycling center in the section marked "cardboard" to recycle it.
  • Please rinse or scrape all food out of all items before you place to recycle.
  • Please smash aluminum cans to make room in the recycle bin.

Thank you for your teamwork at Lake Milton... "Our Green Community!"
